How to Tailor Your Resume to a Job Description
Tailoring is not rewriting. It's reordering and lightly editing. With a structured master resume in place, you can adapt it for a specific role in about fifteen minutes.
Keep one master resume
Maintain one long document that contains every bullet, project, and skill you'd ever want to use. This is the library. Each tailored version is a subset of it. You'll rewrite individual lines, but you'll almost never start from scratch.
Pull keywords from the posting
Highlight every concrete noun and verb in the posting: tools, methodologies, outcomes, anything mentioned twice. Cross-check against the master and surface the matching bullets.
Reorder, never fabricate
Move the most relevant bullets to the top of each role. Drop the least relevant. Adjust the wording to mirror the posting. Don't invent experience. You'll often find the right bullet is already in your master, just buried.
